Supporting the bone marrow during / after chemotherapy with moxibustion
Ever heard of moxibustion? I never heard of it until a friend who is a licensed accupuncturist suggested it to me. Googling clearly shows that it is one modality that is specifically used by the Chinese to support chemo patients struggling with low WBC.
How does it work? Well, by googling, I found this link that claims:
"Moxa has an especial ability to affect white blood cells, whose function is to fight infection, by activating the function of the lymphatic tissue that produces them (e.g. bone marrow, spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes and thymus tissue). It not only stimulates white blood cell production, but also maintains them at a high level in the blood. Furthermore, it can increase the speed with which white blood cells travel to an infected or injured area, and increases their ability to perform their functional roles in the body. These functions have been documented serologically (4)
