Dealing with cancer

So you (or your loved one) have cancer. My wife has cancer and I've been doing research to see how I can best support her from a nutritional stand point. Conventional medicine doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to nutrition and diet.

Some people believe that nutrition plays a key role in preventing, as well as treating cancer. Obviously this is hard to prove. The theory is that cancer cells are much more common than people know. A few mutations here and there and voila - you have a cancer cell. The theory is that in most healthy people, the immune system immediately responds to and overwhelms the cancer cells, thereby eliminating them from the body.

Along those lines, some believe that the reason why current chemotherapy and other conventional treatments are not as effective as we'd like them to is because they only kill cancer cells but do not address the underlying body deficiencies or weaknesses that led to runaway cancer growths in the first place. Again, these are all theories. Still, it is worth giving thought to

In the recent years, there have been discoveries linking fundamental nutrient deficiencies (such as vitamin D for example) to increased rate in cancer, or to poorer outcomes after cancer has occurred.

My goal for this website is to compile as many high quality links to good research or news articles out there, with the explicit focus on how I can best support my wife from a nutritional stand-point. Various cancer nutrition books claim that up to 40% of cancer casualties are a result of cachexia (starving of the patient due to the cancer or conventional treatments). For example, my wife had radiation to her neck/throat which made it terribly painful to eat. Resorting to an all liquid diet forces you to carefully choose what you eat (or drink rather). You need to get high quality calories and protein into the body. Conventional hospitals will probably supply you with ensure. However, if they stopped to think about it for a moment, they might not be so quick to recommend it when they consider that PET/CT scans used to highlight tumors use radioactive glucose because it has been long proven that cancer cells absorb glucose at an inordinately higher rate compared to normal cells. This is how tumors cheat - by stealing the majority of body glucose and using that energy to outgrow the rest of the body. So it might not be such a good idea to pump high sugar foods into your body. There are better alternatives out there. Sadly, conventional medicine doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to things like these.

It's my sincerest hope that you'll find this website useful in your own quest to beat cancer. If you have additional info to add, feel free to post comments.

Together, we can hopefully make a real difference.

Sincerely,
CancerHusband
