Can Omega 3 oils shrink tumors?

WARNING!!! IF YOU ARE ON ACTIVE IMMUNOTHERAPY, YOU SHOULD BE WARNED THAT HIGH DOSES OF FISH OIL MAY COUNTERACT IMMUNOTHERAPY. THIS IS DUE TO ITS STRONG ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECT.

I'm seeing a lot of anecdotes and even studies out there that exalt the benefits of Omega 3 oils against cancer. They range from showing Omega 3 oils suppressing tumor growth in animal models down to even a case study by some Univ. of Nevada academics following a 78 year old man who used only fish oil to dramatically shrink his sarcoma (MFH, or Malignant fibrous histiocytoma, which is now known as undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma).

  1. Fish oil suppresses tumor growth in rats
  2. 78 year old man with sarcoma in the lungs (MFH) declines chemo and takes 15g of Fish Oil / day. His tumors shrink 93% over a period of 4 years (if you don't think this is a big deal, you should note that sarcomas generally grow very fast. We're talking weeks or few short months. So for something to make a lung sarcoma decrease in size over 4 years is nothing sort of amazing)

I just heard from another MFH patient who actually contacted the paper author. From what I understand, the patient who was the subject of the paper, is alive and well—10 years after diagnosis! Apparently, his tumors have essentially resolved. I don't know what this means exactly—but it doesn't matter! He had documented disseminated disease and is now alive and well.

You decide: A metastatic MFH patient with documented multiple lung tumors refuses chemo, takes high doses of fish oil (and is apparently continuing to do so a decade after diagnosis), has his tumors regress to the point of being essentially resolved, and all this while apparently enjoying a high quality of life. How significant is that?
